With only a few exceptions, there's always been a two year window between new movies in the James Bond franchise. But upon the release of Quantum of Solace, Michael G. Wilson of EON Productions suggested that there might be a three year wait until the next cinema premiere.

JAMESBOND.no had the pleasure of meeting up with the veteran producer during an event at the British Film Institute (BFI) in London last weekend. It's «Bond month» at the Institute, with several screenings and both cast and crew present. For instance, the two screenings of The Living Daylights in May were attended by director John Glen and Bond girl Maryam D'Abo. JAMESBOND.no were present at the second screening of this movie, Saturday May 23d, and were seated only two rows behind D'Abo, in a very intimate theatre. After the screening, the actress entered the stage to answer questions from an appointed interviewer as well as from the audience.

A pleasant bonus for us, being the Bond fans that we are, was seeing Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. We met Broccoli when she visited Norway last year, but due to all the commotion after this screening, we didn't get to speak with her this time around. Her half-brother Wilson, on the other hand, was available for a short interview.

– We've noticed that you've told the media that the preparation for Bond 23 are under way ...?

– Well, yeah, and that's about all I can tell you at the moment. We've started working on it. That's it!

– But when is the premiere? Will we have to wait until 2011?

– Yes, I can confirm that. We need more time, and we don't want to rush it.

– Can you also confirm that more time is needed due to a planned remake of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?

– That's a project under consideration, that's correct.

– Other ideas? Any more Fleming material?

– Very unlikely. We've used most of it already!

– Tonight's screening of The Living Daylights was not a digital copy. Aren't all of them restored by now?

– Most of them are, but not all of them. This one just wasn't ready yet.

– How often do you watch the movies yourself?

– Now I'm watching them on DVD. I watch them about every five years, all of them.

– Not on Blu-ray?

– No, I'm not quite there yet!

We took the opportunity to give Michael G. Wilson due credit for weaving Fleming stories into the screenplays of films like For Your Eyes Only and The Living Daylights. But we didn't have much more time, as the fans crowded him, wanting both pictures and autographs. And Wilson, a very friendly man, had time to spare for each and every one of them.
